Frequently Asked Questions

Not at all! It takes strength, courage, and vulnerability to ask for help when you need it. Sometimes we get stuck in the day to day and develop patterns that while effective in the moment are no longer helpful. My role is to walk along side you as you get unstuck and find new patterns that help you interact in ways that you would like.

Unfortunately I have to give the typical therapist response to this question, it depends. Everyone comes to therapy for different reasons, but for most people these stressors did not just occur overnight. Carving into wood is often easier than sanding it back out. Working through weeks, months, or years of the same stressors/patterns takes time. While this does not mean you will be in therapy forever it also means you probably will be here for longer than two or three weeks.

Therapy can be effective when you go alone especially when you are working through trauma. However, as systemic therapists we find the most effective change occurs when we get the whole system into therapy. It is harder to maintain change when you enter back into the same environment with unchanged negative interaction patterns.
